Betty Frances Collins-Sloan, 80, of Oneonta, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.
Born on Nov. 5, 1929, in Oneonta, she was the daughter of Vernon and Frances (Castle) Collins.
She worked as a teller for Wilber National Bank making many a friend until her retirement.
Her life was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her most treasured moments were those spent at picnics, holidays and birthdays, playing with the babies and spending time with her mother, whom she loved dearly.
Betty touched all those who knew her with her unselfishness and unconditional love.
She was a warm and caring person who was blessed with a life rich in her family's love, and she found true joy in the "littlest things in life," the sparkle of a Christmas light, a handmade card, reading a good book.
Recent years she resided at the Oneonta Nursing Home where she would find a reason to smile each day, and spent many an evening sitting out by the nurse's station relishing conversation with the staff and entertaining them with her mischievous ways. She will be missed by those who shared in her laughter.
She is survived by her devoted and loving mother, Frances Collins, of Oneonta; her children, Dayle and Bart Liberatore of Sidney, Kathy and John Wilber of Wells Bridge, Tracy and Lee Young of Sidney, Laurie Stewart of Oneonta and James Sloan and his companion, Alanna Thompson of Otego; her sisters, Joyce and Irwin Bensink of Clymer and JoAnne and John Murphy of Saratoga Springs; her grandchildren, Catherine and Ryan Liberatore, John Jr. and Jenn Wilber, Dustin Wilber and his fiance, Christina Johnson, Stefanie Wilber and her fiance, Jason Bowers, Jillian Young, Leanne and Jason Ward, Danielle and Darryl Easton, Gregory Stewart and Tyler and Brittany Sloan; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Ethan Wilber, Kyler and Shane Bowers, Aidain Hoyt and Logan and Abigail Ward; her brother-in-law, Gary Shaver of Hudson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her father, Vernon Collins, in 1994; and her sister, Shirley Shaver in 2000.
A private family viewing and burial of her ashes in Oneonta Plains Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lord's Table, 18 Elm St., Oneonta, NY 13820.
